I'm just a girl who likes to DIY anything and everything. More than that, I love teaching people - especially women - how to pick up power tools and create the home of their dreams. Stop waiting for someone else and starting Doing It Yourself. I'll show you how!
Over the years, I’ve shared a few emergency must-haves for around the home. Since sharing, I’ve received messages from you guys about how some of these products have saved your home. So, I decided to compile them all in one place and explain why they’re important to have around. Obviously I hope you never have to use any of these things. But, I hope this is helpful!
I have this canned fire extinguisher in every room in my house. When you’re in a high-stress situation, your brain actually does not function normally. This thing is amazing because you grab it and just spray it like you would any other household spray. This is so much easier than a regular fire extinguisher which is why I love it!
We have one of these in every single bathroom vanity and in our kitchen. In an emergency, you don’t have 2 minutes to go look for something like this. Again, that’s why I love this canned fire extinguisher!
I have this fire blanket as well..because I like to be prepared. Sue me! We have one of these in our mudroom and each kid has one in their closet. “Oh there’s a fire, what do I do?!” This fire blanket slides right out of it’s hanging pouch. You just toss the blanket onto the fire and it puts it right out. Some people say this thing is easier to use than the canned fire extinguisher. Why not have both?
I also feel like you could wrap it around yourself to escape a fire in the event of a fire in a home.
Sadly, we live in a world where we women have to be aware of our surroundings. I have this attached to my keychain. I like this pepper spray because it has a flip top so you can’t really accidentally spray it. It’s also a gel which I like because you can control where you’re spraying better. I pray that you buy this and never have to use it.
We have these seatbelt cutters attached to our car visors, which is one of the number one reasons why I love it. Should you be freaking trapped in your car, you seatbelt may not unbuckle. This thing easily slices through seatbelts. It also has a window breaker on the other end. Just so you know, if you ever have to break a window, you’re supposed to hit the corner of the window with this thing. I like this one more than one that hangs from a key chain because it’s right within your arms reach whenever you should need it since it hangs from your visor.
I know it’s silly to even think about it…but in the middle of the night, have you ever wished you had a flashlight? I have. This flashlight is heavy duty so you can use it as nunchucks AND as a light. You can also adjust the range of vision on this flashlight as well.
This bear deterrent is much better than a pepper spray to have in your home because it’s designed to deter large animals. So, you’d do more damage with something like this. Getting shot with something like this would not be fun.
This water storage container opens up to 5 gallons! It’s made of healthy plastic which is great so it won’t contaminate your water. It has such an easy-to-use lid. We put filtered water in ours. We have 4 but I ordered more because I want to have enough for each person in my family. Water is the #1 priority in an emergency.
This thing is a radio transmitter, flashlight, AND an SOS machine. One of the top reasons why I love this is because it takes batteries, charges via usb, solar powered, and crank powered! I love that. You want to have a radio in an emergency situation so you can stay in the loop of what’s going on. There’s also a huge flashlight on it. It also has an alarm sound that is so loud and will definitely get people’s attention. This is one of those things you’d never regret buying, should you need it.
Like I said, it’s my hope and prayer that none of you ever have to use any of these. But you can never be too prepared when it comes to emergency situations. I have a more lengthy list of emergency must-haves here on my Amazon Storefront. These I listed are just a few of my favorite emergency must-haves. Let me know if you have any other additions to this list. I’m always on the lookout for more ways to be safe and prepared!
